Keep Your Eyes On The Road!
Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 10:41AM Pray, pray, then pray some more. Recently I sat down to pray. I brought some of my needs before the Lord. Now when I began to pray for these particular things, I realized that I couldn't remember the last time I had prayed for these things.
I think I'm always praying. I realized that the requests were in my heart but had I also "made my request known"? Had I been focused in my prayers? The longer we walk with the Lord the more natural the Christian lifestyle becomes. But natural is a good and bad thing.
In a sport, or a trade, or a skill experts say that mistakes happen when you get too comfortable. The person develops a second nature for a particular thing and doesn't need to pay as much attention as they used to. ...Or so they think and that's when the mistake happens.
Have you ever been driving down a road and can't remember the last five minutes? Or you almost cause an accident because you weren't paying attention? We have to appreciate the ability to learn to drive and be able to go places. But with that ability comes a great responsibility. As believers we receive a package of tools. Prayer is one of the most powerful tools in our box! We have the ability to pray to the creator of the universe and ask Him to move on our behalf! Now, (referring to the driving example) if we don't pay attention were not going to get where we need to go.
If your life is at stake while driving a car, then what's at stake while following Christ? And like the road, there's more than just you that suffer the consequences of not paying attention. Our prayers are so important that they actually can steer us through a situation. If we stop paying attention or aren't direct in our focus, life (as with a car) will follow the road, possibly to our death. Not only ours but what about others along our way?
As believers we must not become so comfortable. It's just plain dangerous!!! This is why Paul said to pray without ceasing. And this prayer must be fervent. Remember that the fervent prayer, or in other words the prayer of someone who is paying attention, avails much! If we half heatedly pray then expect a half hearted life. So when we pray, mean it!
...Make your prayers pointed and direct! Don't let life steer you but steer life!!!
